The Barter Network was a commissioned early-stage app concept designed to facilitate the exchange of services and skills within local communities. The idea was inspired by growing economic pressure and a renewed interest in bartering as a practical alternative to monetary exchange. The app aimed to make service-based bartering feel structured, trustworthy, and accessible, particularly for individuals who may be time-poor, financially constrained, or physically limited.

My role focused on shaping the product from a UX and interaction perspective. I explored how users might list their abilities, understand the value of exchanges, and connect with others in a way that reduced friction and social awkwardness. A key consideration throughout the design process was ensuring the bartering flow felt calm and intuitive, avoiding unnecessary cognitive or emotional load. This led to a clean, supportive interface that balanced clarity and warmth, encouraging meaningful exchanges rather than transactional interactions.

Requirements & Result

The requirements were to create a clear and simple mental model for bartering to reduce user uncertainty using strong foundational research. After that, developing a visual style that felt calming and approachable was key. We delivered UX flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity UI designs.

The final outcome was a fully considered UX and UI design for a service-based bartering app that prioritised ease, trust, and community. The designs reduced social friction through structured layouts. A modern, bohemian-inspired visual direction was used to soften the experience without compromising usability.

Although the project did not proceed to development due to changing priorities, it heightened my ability to translate real-world problems into thoughtful digital solutions, apply UX research principles, and design intuitive, human-centred product experiences.
