CARIS Families
CARIS Families is a London-based charity supporting families living in temporary accommodation at the sharp end of the housing crisis. Their work spans direct services for children, housing advocacy for parents and carers, and wider campaigning to highlight the long-term impact of homelessness on family life. They approached us to explore a refreshed brand identity that could better reflect both the warmth of their frontline support and the seriousness of their advocacy work within the housing sector.
Requirements & Result
The key challenge was balancing empathy with authority. CARIS Families needed a brand that felt human and approachable for families, while also credible and confident when engaging with local authorities, partners and funders.
This logo modernises the charity's visual identity while retaining the house from the original logo. The house features a visible door symbolising accessibility, welcome, and the threshold between crisis and stability. The radiating arc above serves multiple purposes: it embraces the houses like a protective canopy representing support and suggests a sunrise bringing hope and new beginnings. The segmented design can represent multiple families, different support services, or various stakeholders working together toward housing reform. The typeface was chosen for its organic, approachable qualities essential for working with vulnerable families while maintaining the clarity and professionalism needed to engage donors and policymakers. The design conveys warmth, hope, and stability while communicating that CARIS Families provides comprehensive support.
